Louisiana saltwater fishing so far in 2017 has been fantastic with no signs of slowing down!
This year’s warmer-than-usual Winter continues to be great for our captains and their customers.
They’re finding limits throughout Louisiana’s coastal marshes and have posted the pictures on social media to prove it! Some are even having customers catch the biggest redfish of their lives.
The redfish have come into the marsh in record numbers. One of our captains from Delacroix, within the New Orleans East Basin, posted online that the redfish action is as good as he’s seen in the past 10 years! Also, the black drum are starting to show up more and more each day.
As for the speckled trout, they can be found just about anywhere in southern Louisiana as long as the weather and the tide cooperate on a given day. Our captains are quickly figuring out that the trout aren’t acting like it’s Winter due to the warmer temps. That’s okay. That just means they’re acting like it’s late February or March, so they’re on the way out of these deep holes instead of being in them. It’s an easy adjustment to make if you know where to look, and our experienced captains sure do!
The first few months of the year also mean the tuna and wahoo bite is killer out on a trip to offshore fishing area we like to call “The Lump.” It usually takes an overnight fishing trip to enjoy this fishery, but when you get there, the bite is practically guaranteed to be on, and it’s a rush unlike anything you’ve ever experienced! You just haven’t lived until you catch a fish that’s bigger than you are!
If you know where to look, this year’s mild weather is producing one of the best Winters in recent Louisiana saltwater fishing memory. Our licensed and insured guides are experts at finding the fish. You’re really missing out if you don’t take advantage of the services of our charter-for-hire fleet.
